Oscar Micheaux Family Theater Program [>]
The Blackstone Community Center has been the home base for the Oscar Micheaux Family Theater Program for more than seven years. The mission is to provide a safe environment to teach history, particularly the Harlem Renaissance Era, through theater performance to youth and adults. Open auditions run twice a year. Volunteers come in to teach the cast from a thematic curriculum - e.g. acting, set design/lighting, writing, history, costume maintenance, etc. Each year during the spring, there is an annual three-night performance providing the community an opportunity to see a full production of a play at a selected venue.
Program entails weekly rehearsals, culminating in performances of Harlem Renaissances with a Boston Flavor. Membership required.
