Oscar Micheaux Family Theater Program
The home base for the Oscar Micheaux Family Theater Program has been the Blackstone Community Center for more than seven years. The mission is to provide a safe environment to teach history, particularly the Harlem Renaissance Era through theater performance to youth and adults. Open auditions run twice a year. Volunteers come in to teach the cast from a thematic curriculum, e.g. acting, set design/lighting, writing, history, costume maintenance, etc. Each year during the spring there is an annual three-night performance providing the community an opportunity to see a full production of a play at a selected venue.
Program entails weekly rehearsals culminating with a play performances of Harlem Renaissances with a Boston Flavor. Membership required.
